Shop Suffolk Spotlight: Purely Pesto
Introducing Purely Pesto a wonderful Leiston based brand not only offering free delivery over £15 spends but also giving a free pot to all NHS staff with every order. We had a chat with Gavin the chef to find out more.
Tell us what Purely Pesto does in a nutshell?
We are a small, family run company that makes a delicious range of pesto, hummus, soups and dips. We only use fresh herbs in our pestos and fresh vegetables in our soups; where possible we source them locally. We produce in small batches, with no compromise on quality to ensure every pot is bursting with flavour!
Why Should we buy Purely Pesto?
Now, more than ever, we believe it is important to buy local and support all our amazing Suffolk producers. We can assure you that each pot of pesto is brimming with fresh herbs, no additives or preservatives are used in any pot, hence the short shelf life of our products. Everything is made weekly, to order and ready to eat immediately!
How long have you been running?
We have been running for 14 years. We started out with just the classic basil pesto and the sun-dried tomato pesto, selling at local farmers’ markets and gradually increased the range. Today we have over 30 different products.
Where did the idea originate from?
I had been working as a chef for many years and it was the inspiration I found when on a trip through Italy, that sparked the creation of Purely Pesto. Tasting all their amazing pesto made me decide to make a fresh pesto available in UK farm shops. From there, the company just grew with the introduction of various beans and herbs being used to make hummus, fresh soups from the classic carrot and coriander to the more unusual cream of celeriac.
How can customers find you?
We have a website: www.purelypesto.co.uk, which lists all our stockists. We mainly supply to delis and farm shops in East Anglia and London. We supply the East of England Coop in their ‘support local’ section. You can also buy directly from us online and at the moment we are offering a free delivery service to people self-isolating within a 15-mile radius of our HQ (1P16 4LL).
What do you love about Suffolk?
We love the people and their enthusiasm for locally produced and grown food. There really is a united passion in Suffolk for knowing where your food comes from. The Aldeburgh food and drink festival is a highlight of our year, when all the wonderful local producers get together to showcase what fantastic products our region has to offer!
Who are your three favourite Suffolk businesses or brands?
All foodie… very tricky to choose, but I would say… Hill Farm Oils, Suffolk Meadow Ice Cream and Pinneys of Orford!
