Shop Suffolk Spotlight: Kerry Gooden Anxiety Coach
Tell us what you do in a nutshell?
As an anxiety coach, I mainly work with children but have recently adapted to help adults. I use The STILL (Stop, Talk, Imagine, Listen and Learn) Method in my workshops and 1-1s. It brings together neuro-linguistic programming, cognitive behaviour therapy and positive psychology to give children and young people the tools to overcome their anxiety.
The workshops are based around fun, engaging and practical techniques that are quick to learn and quick to use! These techniques have been designed to be used immediately (panic attacks) and to be used to help overcome upsetting memories/negative thoughts.
Why should we choose your service?
As somebody who has suffered badly with anxiety and negative thoughts, I really understand how someone may be feeling.
This service is for everyone, you do not need to have had a diagnosis of anxiety. You may just be having a tough few weeks or months and need a little help to get back to your old self. I like to run my workshops with a lot of fun, passion and without a clinical feel. You may even be lucky enough to see one of my (bad) drawings during a session!
How long have you been running?
Since October 2019
Where did the idea originate from?
In 2018 & 2019, I suffered terribly with my own anxiety and depression. I ended up leaving my full time job as my brain could not take the added pressure. Who would have thought this would turn out to be the best thing I have ever done!
During this time, I contacted a hypnotherapist that I had been recommended, Stuart Thompson, and I went along for approximately 8 sessions with him. Well, that was life changing! I was now on a path that I was enjoying and I had learnt tips and techniques that I was able to use wherever and whenever.
The latter end of 2019 was when I got my sparkle back! In October 2019, Stuart approached me with his plan to train coaches around the country to teach The STILL Method and I absolutely jumped at the chance – this was my opportunity to start helping people the way that I had been helped.
In the UK, there has been an unprecedented rise in children and young people suffering with anxiety and negative thoughts. This is putting an almighty strain on our schools and the parents. My role is to try an ease that and help as many children and young people as I can.
What do you love about Suffolk?
I don’t think there is anything that I don’t love! The countryside that I have on my doorstep in Sudbury is amazing, I love exploring it with my dog! Being able to get to the coast in 30 minutes to an hour (depending on where you go) is lovely too.
Our ethos is to share our love for Suffolk business. Who are your three favourite Suffolk businesses or brands?
